Pedestrian hit in Jasper County

RIDGELAND, SC (WTOC) - A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle is in critical condition at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

Ridgeland police said Jeremy Robert Tuten, 17, of Ridgeland, was driving a 2004 Toyota pickup when he struck Douglas McAuthor Grim, 41, of West Virginia, who was walking on Nuna Rock Road at about 6:10 p.m.

Tuten told police he never saw Grim until after he was hit. Police said Tuten  turned around, came back and saw the Grim in the ditch and immediately called 911.

Jasper County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. Grim was later flown to Savannah.

Police said Grim was wearing dark clothing and was walking in the roadway.

Officer Tim East of the Ridgeland Police Department is still investigating the collision. East contacted the pedestrian's family in West Virginia.

At this time, no charges have been filed against Tuten.
