Former Youth Commissioner Killed in Traffic Accident

A former member of the Chatham County Youth Commission was killed after he was hit by a Ford transport van. Savannah-Chatham Police say 21 year old Brandon Lacy Brown was hit as he was walking along President Street between the Truman Parkway and Dulaney Road around 5:30 Saturday morning.

Investigators believe the driver of the van, 28 year old Nicole Roberts, swerved to try to avoid the accident. According to witnesses, the van was not speeding. Brown died before he could be rushed to the hospital. Roberts and a passenger in the van were taken to Memorial Health University where they were treated and released.

Police believe the dark road and Brown's non-reflective clothing were factors in the accident; however, they're still investigating. No charges have been filed.

Savannah-Chatham Police say five people have been killed in four different traffic accidents on roads in Savannah and Chatham County.
