Firefighters battle flames on two homes

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Fire crews battled flames early Wednesday morning at two vacant homes on 38th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Firefighters were called to the scene after 4 a.m. Officials say it happened in a row of four houses. Two of them had burned down earlier in the year and were torn down.

The two houses that were left are the ones that burned Wednesday morning. Investigators say they are looking into whether the fire was caused by arson.

"This area here, in the last few months, has been struck with a rash of fires. Two stores that are vacant lots right now burned a few months ago. This is an ongoing process to eradicate the urban blight in this area," said Savannah Fire Chief Tod Hil.

Investigators will be at the scene Wednesday morning to try to determine the cause of the blaze.
