Cox Won't Pursue "Evolution" Change

State school superintendent Kathy Cox has decided not to pursue a proposal to remove the word evolution from the classroom. Cox issued a statement saying she will recommend to teachers that the word be put back in the science curriculum.

Last week we reported Cox wanted teachers to use the phrase "biological changes over time" instead of the word "evolution." But her plan caused quite a bit of controversy. The proposed change was included in revisions the department of education is proposing for Georgia schools.
