Man arrested on theft charges

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - A Burton man who was wanted on several warrants was arrested in connection with two theft cases after manhunt.

Beaufort police responded at about 10 a.m. Wednesday to the area of North Street and Linton Lane on a report of a suspicious person in the area.

Officers saw a man with a backpack trying to conceal items under his jacket walking toward an old train trestle.

When an officer attempted to make contact with the man, he dropped the items and back pack and ran, according to Beaufort police. He got away in a wooded are behind 1505 Salem Rd.

A perimeter was set up and Beaufort County Sheriff's Office K-9 tracking unit was called.  The tracking dog picked up the suspect's scent. He was located and taken into custody.

Shane Frazier, 19, was located and taken into custody.

An investigation tied Frazier to a home break-in at a house on North Street. Beaufort police said Frazier had stolen items in his back pack when he also ran from an officer. He will also be  charged in connection with this case.
