OKATIE, SC (WTOC) - The Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control have issued a boil water advisory for some residents in the Burton area before using it for drinking, cooking or dishwashing.
The advisory area includes all subdivisions along Joe Frazier Road, Mroz Road (including Irongate, Capehart and Pelican Circle) and Morrall Drive and the Habersham subdivision, according to the BJWSA.
The advisory is due to a dramatic drop in water pressure Thursday afternoon while water service was being restored to the area along Burton Wells Road, according to BJWSA. The refilling of the line caused an unexpected drop in water pressure in the surrounding area, the agency said.
BJWSA is sampling the drinking water in the area to ensure that there are no harmful bacteria. Results are expected by late Friday afternoon.
The advisory will be lifted when there's confirmation that the water is safe.
