Ever have problems parking at the airport? So are the planes. Savannah-Hilton Head International is packed, with more people flying in and out and the airlines adding flights. The planes are stacking up. "We're at the point where we're going to have to start hard standing aircraft, which is having to park behind the gates and having people walk down a ramp and up the stairs to a plane, and our commission doesn't like that," said airport commission director Patrick Graham.
So they'll start work this fall on an $8 million expansion, adding four new gates. The federal government's Airport Improvement Project fund will pick up most of the tab. The project should take about two years.
