Severe Weather Slams into Tattnall County

People in Tattnall County are still picking up after severe weather, and possibly a tornado, slammed into their community.

The storm tore through the center part of Reidsville -- knocking over light poles at the recreation ball field and blowing out windows of nearby ambulances at the emergency services building.

Gloria Spikes was in the hospital when the storm hit and said she knew what it was right away. "I heard this awful whistling, rumbling noise.and I looked out the window and I saw the trees twirling and I saw the sign in front of the hospital just traveling down the highway with the vehicles.and I said 'oh, we've got a tornado."

Behind the hospital, the storm slammed into a bio-hazard building -- scattering its contents over an empty field. Emergency crews immediately cordoned off the area to clean up the mess as quickly as possible. "This morning we went back and cleaned all that up.stored it and re bagged it. It has all been taken care of at this time," said Emergency Management Director, Walt Rogers.

Officials say they're keeping the field sealed off as a precaution, but the community is not in any danger.

The National Weather Service has not confirmed if a tornado touched down.

No injuries were reported from the storm.
