COLUMBIA, SC (WTOC) - Powerball changes are coming, but it also means higher ticket prices. Tickets are going from $1 to $2.
The game aims to return bigger jackpots, better odds, and the promise of more millionaires in January.
Powerball's starting jackpot is doubling to $40 million. The overall odds and the odds of winning the jackpot promise to be the best offered in the game's 20-year history, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
The changes will start Jan. 15.
Tickets that match five white balls will win $1 million, up from $200,000. Add $1 for PowerPlay and match five white balls, and the prize is $2 million, according to the lottery.
The PowerPlay multiplier is being replaced by increasing set prize amounts. A Powerball ticket with PowerPlay will now cost $3.
