SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Dec. 19 is slated to be the busiest shipping day for the U.S. Postal Service.
It was the last chance to guarantee packages will arrive by Christmas using regular mail delivery. Until Christmas, consumers will have to upgrade shipping to get gifts under the tree before Christmas Day.
The lines at Savannah's Fahm Street post office have been steady all day.
"It was pretty quick - really quickly and easy," said Cindy Wise.
"It was good. They were very friendly, very kind, they have plenty of lanes opening as we're in there, so it was good - very quick," said Emily Wise.
An estimated 801 million cards and letters are expected to be processed nationwide. That's nearly double the average volume. Between Thanksgiving and the new year, mail carriers will deliver 16.5 billion letters, packages and cards.
