Man arrested after 140 mph motorcycle chase

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - A man is arrested after a high-speed chase in Effingham County.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Office said Brian Ray, 35, of Springfield, led deputies on a high-speed chase on Tuesday night.

A deputy clocked a motorcycle traveling 120 mph on Courthouse Road shortly after 11p.m. Deputies followed the motorcycle, with speeds reaching more than 140 mph, according to the sheriff's office.

The chase went from Courthouse Road to Highway 17 in Guyton and into the Hidden Creek Subdivision, where Ray was taken into custody.

Ray struck a patrol car with his motorcycle during the chase, according to the sheriff's office. He ran into a wooded area, where he was Tased by deputies after a brief struggle.

Ray faces several charges including fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, DUI, reckless driving, two counts of felony obstruction on a law enforcement officer, driving with a suspended license.

He is being held at the Effingham County Jail.
