Georgia State Patrol awarded $2M grant

ATLANTA (WTOC) - The Georgia State Patrol getting almost $2 million in grant money for the Nighthawks DUI Task Force.

The grant is part of a traffic safety HEAT program. Its goals are to reduce impaired driving crashes caused by anything from drinking and driving to texting and driving; reducing speeding; and increasing the amount of drivers using their seat belt.

The GSP Nighthawks was created in 2004. The new grant money will carry the program through September 2012.
