SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

One person is dead and another badly injured after an accident on Savannah's southside.

Sheila H. McKnight, 58, of Savannah died at the scene when the Honda Accord she was driving collided with an Infiniti driven by Philip Morgan McAlpin Jr., 24, of Savannah, just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. McAlpin had to be pulled from the wreckage by firefighters and was taken to Memorial University Medical Center.

After an investigation, police say McAlpin was driving east on Montgomery Crossroads when his car crossed the center turn lane and collided head on with the Honda traveling west in the outside lane in front of the Lake Mayer Community Park entrance.

SCMPD Major Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate.
