SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A handful of early risers are now the owners of the latest hottest buy: the new Nike Air Jordan Concord 11 sneakers, but not without a fight to get them.

There was at least one armed robbery right outside the Savannah Mall. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police said four teens robbed two shoppers in the mall parking lot of their two pairs of sneakers.

The suspects were arrested during a traffic stop near the Regal Cinemas. Tavonte Johnson was arrested after a short foot chase. The other three suspects, James Johnson, Janard Coney, and a 16-year-old were charged with armed robbery. Police said Both pairs of shoes and a pistol were found in of the car.

The suspects are being held at the Chatham County Jail, where they're awaiting additional charges. That investigation continues.

Metro police were forced to use pepper spray on an out-of-control mob at the Oglethorpe Mall. Several people were sprayed. An officer was inadvertantly sprayed as well.

"It was chaos people everywhere," said Janeen Davis. "Everybody was pilled up by this door and the food court door because they said they were going to open at 7 a.m."

Hundreds of customers lined up outside the Oglethorpe Mall to be the first to buy the new sneakers. But the mood quickly changed when the doors didn't open at 7 a.m. Customers say that is when everything got out of control.

"The crowd was so serious. The police didn't want to open the door," said Kevin Holmes. "They sprayed mace. It got real bad the crowd got maced. We got our shoes. So serious about these shoes."

"I have been here since 2:15 this morning," said Samantha Smart. "When I got here, everything was all good. When the officers started coming to the door, the people started bum rushing the door. They bust down the door. I got maced! The whole right side of my face is burning. Even the security man isn't supposed to mace us and he did. I don't think it's fair. I still didn't get any shoes."

Only a limited number of shoes were distributed at each store, which is why customers say it was worth all the chaos.

"Limited edition Space Jam Michael Jordan's," said Holmes. "They only came out about 14-15 years ago, this is the second time they are coming out. They are very popular. People like them."

Shortly after the release, the shoes were selling online for up to $700, but some people will be keeping this hot gift item for themselves.

"These are for ourselves. We got our kids presents. These are for ourselves," said Holmes and Davis.
