New billboards are going up in Beaufort County to promote an online resource for help children and families.
Beaufort4kids.com came about after Beaufort County was picked by the America's Promise Alliance as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People in the country, according to a news release. More than 300 communities nationwide were nominated, and 29 achieved the designation this year.
The 100 Best Competition started in 2005 is a 10-year initiative to get Americans to lower the high school dropout rate and prepare young people for college.
The Beaufort County School District applied for the designation on behalf of Together for Beaufort County.
The Best Communities application process asked communities details on how it fulfilled Five Promises, which are caring adults, safe places, health start, effective education and opportunities to help others – that the America's Promise Alliance named as critical to children's health and success.
The billboards are a partnership with Adams Outdoor Advertising, which is providing the space for free.
