Police: Suspect shot by Wendy's worker during robbery

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - One man was shot and killed and another man is at large after a robbery early Thursday morning at a Wendy's on Wilmington Island.

One suspect was found dead in the parking lot of the Wendy's at U.S. 80 and Johnny Mercer Boulevard when police arrived about 12:50 a.m.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are trying to identify the suspect who ran from the scene.

Two men with masks had surprised a Wendy's employee as he was cleaning the store after closing and forced him at gunpoint into the office, where they took money, according to SCMPD.

Police said the worker then went outside with his own weapon and that one of the two men pointed a gun at him. Police said the employee fired his own weapon and the gunman fell to the ground.
