RICHMOND HILL, GA (WTOC) - Family members say 38-year-old Stephanie Hope was killed after a New Year's party in Denver early Sunday morning.
Hope is from Richmond Hill and moved to Denver two weeks ago to teach at a beauty school.
Denver Police say the shooting was accidental.
"Her Dad called me at 6:30 Sunday morning and said she had been shot. He called me crying," close family friend Gary Swope said.
Hope grew up in Richmond Hill and later opened a beauty shop in Beaufort, S.C.
"She had everything going for her. She loved kids, animals and doing hair," Swope said.
While police say the shooting is accidental, Hope's friends and family have questions.
"It raises red flags. I want to know...was she with the wrong crowd? It bothers me because this shouldn't have happened to her. She is not the type of person to get shot," Swope said.
Police continue to investigate.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been set.
