WTOC Celebrates 50 years as The Southeast News Leader

The First Annual Southern Women's show at the Savannah International Trade and Convention center had plenty to offer Coastal Empire and Low Country residents on Saturday.

More than a hundred booths were set up filled with information and samples, including our own WTOC tent.

On Saturday, at two o'clock, we celebrated 50 years of  Teamwork, Trust, and Tradition as The Southeast News Leader.

Many residents remembered the first time we made the transition from radio to television."Being a native of Savannah, I was here when they had their initial opening broadcast, so this is very meaningful to me," said viewer, Jessie Collier DeLoach.

It was also a special time for WTOC employees as well. "It brings out a real feeling of pride and tradition, realizing all of the great professionals that came before us and laid the ground work for all of us who have been so privileged to be a part of this t.v. station," said WTOC General Manager Bill Cathcart.

We rang in the milestone with a huge celebration.including WTOC news personalities, staff, and guests, like Mr. Food. But it was our loyal viewers that turned out who made the party so special. "I just like all the newscasters, and everybody just feels like family," said WTOC viewer, Donna Dixon.

With fifty years of tradition behind us, we're moving ahead once again to be the Coastal Empire and Low Country's Southeast News Leader.
