Car Crash Claims the Life of a Chatham County Youth

A sixteen year old is dead and three other youths injured in a single car accident Saturday night. It happened on Grove Point Road, near Wild Heron Road around 10:30 p.m.

Savannah - Chatham Police tell us when they arrived on the scene, they found three passengers ejected from the car. The driver of the car, a fifteen year old, was severely injured. The front passenger, a sixteen year old, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victims were taken to Memorial Health for treatment. Their names have not been released, pending notification of their family.

Police believe the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it came around a curve on Grove Point Road. The driver lost control and slammed into an embankment.

Traffic investigators say speed, weather conditions, and inexperience all contributed to the crash.
