Ga. Secretary of State to discuss military voting options

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Georgia's Secretary of State Brian Kemp is visiting the Combat Readiness Training Center on Tuesday to talk about voting, voter registration and access to ballots.

The information session is part an outreach and educational effort to promote voting opportunities, which includes a tour of military bases around the state.

Starting Saturday, Georgia's military and overseas personnel can access their absentee ballot electronically for the March 6 presidential primary.

The Secretary of State website has two tutorial videos that explain absentee voting options for Georgia's military and overseas residents.

To get an electronic ballot for the presidential primary, Georgia's military and overseas citizens must request an absentee ballot from their county election office. In that request, they must indicate a political party preference, and check the appropriate box to receive their ballot electronically.

Once the request is made, they can then log on to a secure website, print and vote their ballot, and then mail it back to their county election office.

Military and overseas voters may receive access to absentee ballots for an entire year's election cycle, according to the Secretary of State's Office.

Georgia's military and overseas citizens can request their absentee ballot at the My Voter Page website at http://www.sos.ga.gov/mvp.

The Secretary of State website includes a Military and Overseas section that has downloadable absentee ballot request forms; contact information; and details on who qualifies as a military or overseas voter.
