3 arrested in connection with Bryan County kidnappings

PEMBROKE, GA (WTOC) -

Three men have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of two businessmen who were later released in Bryan County.

Cecil Dewitt Nelson, 32, and Antonio Lamount Murray, 38, faced Federal Court Judge J.R. Smith in Monday afternoon. A third defendant Gary Lenion McDonald, 35, made an appearance in Federal court on Saturday. All three are charged with conspiracy to commit a kidnapping and kidnapping.

Last week, Special Agent Stephen Emmet confirmed that the FBI was investigating the two kidnapping incidents.

"While the FBI can confirm the reports of kidnappings of area businessmen as described, we can also confirm that we are investigating those incidents and, as such, are not currently in a position to provide further detail due to the ongoing nature of this matter," said Emmet.

The first occurred Dec. 1 in Richmond Hill and the second happneed Jan. 12 in Pembroke.

Assistant U.S. Attorney James Durham said it is an ongoing investigation. Those with information can contact the Savannah FBI at 912.944.0700.
