SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
It's called like-jacking, the latest scheme floating around the world's most popular social networking site, Facebook.
Facebook officials say it happens when you notice an interesting post on your page that a friend supposedly likes and has sent to you. The post looks legitimate, but it's usually spam that sends you to an online survey or product.
Facebook is taking action, and teamed up with the Washington Attorney General's office to sue a Delaware based online marketing company called Adscend Media.
Assistant Attorney General Paula Selis says the company lures you into giving your personal information and ordering products it never intends to send.
"This company is misleading you, the user and the consumer, into thinking that you are getting a message from a friend and in fact, it is an advertisement."
The company then sends out similar like messages from you to all of your friends.
Facebook is working on a solution, but is having a hard time keeping up with the scheme.
Facebook users can be especially vulnerable, and Attorney General Rob McKenna advises you to trust your instincts before you click.
