Effingham Hospital expansion project almost complete

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The 58,000 square foot, thirty million dollar expansion project for the Effingham Hospital and care center is nearly complete.

Saturday, the hospital held an open house with a behind-the-scenes tour of the new facilities.

The original building was built in 1969 and was considered too small, so the biggest improvement is all the added space. That space is housing new state-of-the-art surgery suites, advanced medical imaging, and new outpatient services.

Chief Operating Officer of the Effingham Health System, Tammy Mims says, "the city of Effingham will now have the latest and greatest of technology and radiology equipment. Also, in the operating rooms, we have large spacious rooms that will allow us to do more procedures than we've been able to do in the past."

The emergency room is set to be fully functional next weekend and they already have their first surgery scheduled for the new operating rooms.
