SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

It's the final week of the 28 Day Fit Club Challenge.

The heat is on as challengers try to shed those final pounds and change their physiques.

"[I've] been running, jogging, [and doing] jumping jacks," said Shammy Butler. "My main thing is eating right and trying to find the right path. I think this is really showed me a challenge, because it was a challenge today. Glad I came out today."

Personal Trainer Heath Stubbs pushed challengers to their limits during a grueling last week workout at the Richmond Hill YMCA.

"Rolled a tire, lunges and the running," said Butler. "I have asthma and I didn't know whether I would be able to do it or not, but I was really surprised with myself. I am blessed to be able to do this today."

While weight training is key to sculpting a better body. Stubbs said a proper diet will help with better gains.

"Nutrition is key if they want to maximize results and want to drop the pounds and win this challenge and of course keeping up with workouts," said Stubbs. "Coming to the end people tend to slack off, get tired and fatigued. This is crunch time."

The first two weeks, challengers used moderate weight and high repetitions to help increase their muscular endurance. Now in the final two weeks, the focus is on increasing muscular strength.

"We increased the weight they lifted in order to avoid much muscular atrophy overtime. By building muscle, they do maximize more body fat burn," Stubbs said.

Weight lifting is one of the most effective metabolism boosting exercises because it increases muscle strength and mass. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you will burn.

"I think I can do it," said Butler. "I think it can work."

The final free boot camp in the 28 Day Fit Club Challenge takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Daffin Park. It's free and open to the public.

Trainers from Fitness One at Memorial Health will be running this final Fit Club boot camp event.
