GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

The Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Savannah is on the scene of a possible fuel spill at the Garden City Terminal in Savannah.

Colonial Oil Industries told the Coast Guard Tuesday that at 1:50 a.m. a fuel leak  occurred during bunkering operations of the Motor Vessel Maersk Dellys, according to the Coast Guard.

Moran Environmental arrived at the terminal and put a boom in place to contain the possible source of the spill by 4 a.m., according to the Coast Guard. The company is also deploying 1,000 more feet of boom around the ship, as a precaution. So far, the Coast Guard has found no sign of fuel in the water.

According to the Coast Guard, Crewmembers of the Maersk Dellys found a small crack in the fuel tank. The Coast Guard is coordinating response efforts.

Investigators are looking at what may have caused the crack. It's unclear how much fuel is any spilled, as a result of the crack.

The Garden City Terminal is operated by Georgia Ports Authority. It's the fourth-largest container port in the U.S. and the biggest single-terminal operation in North America, according to GaPorts.com.
