EVANS CO., GA (WTOC) - A controlled burn in Evans County is causing issues for residents in the area.
The property owner was issued a permit from Georgia Forestry officials for the controlled burn.
On Wednesday morning, the Claxton Fire Department had to shut down roads. Some residents with breathing issues are having an especially hard time.
"It really affects their breathing, and my son does have to use their nebulizer when this happens more," said Tammy Mitchell of Claxton. "He has to go in and out of school. My husband has to carry him out so he's not stuck in the house. It's just not fair to our animals to our environment because of all these controlled burns."
Mitchell told she thinks the Georgia Forestry Commission should give residents more of a warning beforehand and help them secure their homes from the smoke.
