Express Lane store robbed

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

A St. Helena's Island convenience store was robbed Wednesday night.

Just after 5:30 p.m. Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the Express Lane at 1702 Sea Island Parkway on a report of an armed robbery.

An employee told deputies that a man entered the store showed a handgun and demanded money.

The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then ran through the woods toward Coffin Point Road.

The clerk was unharmed and no customers were there at the time of the robbery.  

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s with a scruffy beard. He was about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed 160 lbs. Investigators are currently following up on promising leads to the suspect's identity.
