Daniel PayneThere were 2 more signings Thursday, the second day of the signing period for football.
At beach high school, Orlando Dixon signed on the dotted line to play football at Albany State. The versatile athlete played both offense and defense for the Bulldogs, but says he expects to play at corner for the Rams. He's excited about the next stage in his life. "It's like a burden off my shoulder because I never thought I would make it to college," said Dixon. "But, I just kept my head on tight. I'm looking at DB. They want me to go to DB, cornerback. They were short on DBs and I told them I would be a good benefit at DBs."
At Calvary Day, pitcher and designated hitter Daniel Payne signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Mercer. Payne is expected to be one of the cavaliers top pitchers this season. He's thrilled with going to Mercer, especially for the education. "It was a really great opportunity," said Payne. "I had a couple of schools offer me a little bit but this was definitely the best one. It is a great opportunity to have. The education is top notch. I've been looking to go to an engineering school and just being give the opportunity was just part of me set in stone being a division one school."
