SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Police say three men are in custody following an attempted drug deal that turned into an armed robbery.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the 4900 block of LaRoche Avenue on a report of an armed robbery. Responding officers spoke with the complaints, 19-year-old Kyle Hodges of Savannah and 19-year-old Calvin Williams of California. Police said both Hodges and Williams stated to police they were robbed at gunpoint while parked in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

While at the scene, officers concluded that Hodges and Williams were being deceptive in their statements, which led to further investigation, according to police.

SCMPD detectives arrived and concluded that Hodges and Williams had been robbed of marijuana and other items during an attempted drug deal, according to SCMPD. A clothing and physical description of the gunman was broadcasted by police.

While searching the area for the suspect, Savannah State University Police located 20-year-old Darius Harper, of Savannah, walking near a dumpster on campus. Harper ran from officers, but he was quickly apprehended, according to police. Harper could not be identified as the armed robbery suspect, but was arrested by SSUP for loitering and prowling and obstruction by fleeing.

Officers searched the dumpster where Harper was originally seen and they found clothing worn by the robbery suspect, a pistol and an undisclosed amount of marijuana, according to police. The seized marijuana has an estimated street value of approximately $10,000.

Officers also smelled marijuana coming from Williams' vehicle, agents with the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team were called in. A large amount of marijuana was then seized.

CNT arrested both Hodges and Williams on various felony drug-related charges, which included criminal attempt to sell a controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Hodges, Williams, and Harper were taken to the Chatham County Detention Center. Both Hodges and Williams were arraigned earlier Thursday at the Recorder's Court of Chatham County. The investigation into Harper's involvement continues.
