SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Police say a Savannah school bus driver was fired Friday for spraying mace at a student.
Police say the Hubert Middle Schooler was on his way home from school on Thursday when he got into a verbal altercation with the bus driver.
Authorities say they have reviewed the video surveillance from the bus and that after the altercation between the student and the driver occured, the driver sprayed mace at the middle schooler.
"The bus pulled away and he chased behind the bus and at one point he struck the glass in the door with his a hand and shattered the glass," Chief Ulysses Bryant said.
Fire Student officials says it is not their policy that drivers carry mace on the buses.
Police say charges are pending against the driver. They may also take action against the student.
