Police officer says he didn't hit his daughter

LUDOWICI, GA (WTOC) -

A Ludowici police officer says he did not assault his 15 year old daughter.

Raymond Govero is charged with battery after police were called to his Ludowici home.

He says he was restraining his daughter during one of her violent outbursts and that he would never hurt her.

A neighbor called police because he heard screaming. No charges were initially filed, but all that changed earlier this week.

"We just thought this was going to be a juvenile complaint. We didn't call police. We would have handled this inside our own family just like we always have," Govero said.

Govero is suspended without pay from the Ludowici Police Department.

He fears if the charges aren't dropped, he'll never be able to work in law enforcement again.

He says he hasn't lost custody of his children and he thinks the charges might be politically motivated.
