SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Coast Guard is investigating how a container ship had run aground Wednesday morning on the Savannah River.

The UASC Khor Fakkan, an 859-foot container ship, was reported by Savannah Pilots as run aground near Elba Island while heading inbound up the Savannah River at about 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The Coast Guard Sector Charleston set up a safety zone with a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Tybee Island until the ship was refloated at about 6:40 a.m., according to the Coast Guard.

Three tug boats were responded and recovered the UASC Khor Fakkan. It was escorted under its own power to the Garden City Terminal.

There are no reports of damage or pollution, according to the Coast Guard.
