Ezinne Kalu knows that Savannah State's success depends on her success, and she likes that role.  "I do enjoy that burden because I come from Jersey and playing with small fry basketball and AAU teams I want to work hard and be better than the next person," said Kalu. "I will always help the next person."

She leads the team in scoring, averaging over 18 points a game, but that's just the beginning, as she leads the team in 13 categories, including steals, assist and 3 pointers. She believes that comes from her work ethic. "I'm always constantly staying active because when I'm sleeping someone else is working. I just try to make up for those days and those hours where I need to put that extra work in.

And being a stat freak, she also re"alizes that she leads the team in turnovers. "Yes (giggles). Embarrassing as that sounds, yes I probably do. I feel like my turnovers come from me probably being too passive or probably wanting my team to get more involved instead of stepping up and taking that shot."

So far the marine biology major is enjoying Savannah state, but there was one thing for this Jersey girl to have to get used to. "The lingo, like just the certain words people say or how they talk like the Southern accents is so strong I say, slow down and talk, okay. I know people say people talk kind of fast and hard so I have to slow down sometimes, too, to talk."

The Lady Tigers are on the road in North Carolina this weekend but will return home for a game against Florida A&M on Saturday Frebruary 18th.
