Savannah is greeting delegations from around the world in advance of the upcoming G-8 summit. Today the president of the European Union toured Savannah. He's making arrangements before the June summit. Over the last few weeks, delegations from Japan, Russia, France, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom have also toured the city, sampling some of Savannah's fine cuisine and touring the historic sites.
"It seems like a good place to keep people closely together, also informal setting and an informal mood," said Dr. Gunter Burghardt, head of the EU delegation. "And I think it could be a very good summit."
The European foreign minister and will be in Savannah through Friday.
