SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Forsyth Park had its fourth annual Forsyth Farmers' Market
today (Feb. 11).
The event went on from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the south end of
Forsyth Park in Historic Downtown Savannah.
Residents and visitors were able to choose their produce and
products from a variety of vendors.
The goal of the market is to make fresh and healthy foods
easily reachable for local residents.
Market suppliers such as Savannah River Farms, Joseph Fields
Farm and Hunter Cattle Co. were at the event.
"Everybody involved in the success of the market, co-founder
Kristin Russell, community development coordinator Teri Schell, our advisory
committee members, strong supporter Dale Critz, and all of the market
volunteers will be working together to make the 2012 season the most outstanding
since the market opened," said Forsyth Farmers' Market Manager Ben Baxter,
according to a press release.
To help future growth and to promote a healthy lifestyle,
the Market began the "Bring it Home" project, which encourages Savannah's
community to "bring home" knowledge of nutritious food and exercise.
Today the theme was "Bike to the Market." This theme entailed
the first 25 people to check in with their bikes at the "Bring it Home" booth would
receive $5 in market tokens and a healthy recipe, both sponsored by Healthy
Savannah.
For more information on the "Bring it Home" program and how
to become a partner, please contact Teri Schell, the community Development
Coordinator.
