SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The 25th anniversary Gala of the Savannah Black Nurses Association was last night (Feb. 11) at the Marriott Savannah Riverfront.

The Gala is a fundraiser and scholarship presentation event that awards nursing students in the community. Organizers hope to encourage more people to become nurses, which they believe will create a healthier and happier community.

"We want more good nurses because we know that some of us are in the baby boom, like myself and some of us others in the group. We just need to build up a group of caring nurturing nurses to add to the population and to take care of more people," said Lou Roberson-Harris, a member of Savannah Black Nurses Association.

WTOC's very own Brandi Cummings was the emcee of the event.
