SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
The
second Annual "A-Town Get Down" Music Festival is Feb. 25 at the Charles H.
Morris Center.
The
public music festival will honor the memory of Alex Townsend, a junior at
Savannah College of Art and Design who passed away in a car accident on
Valentine's Day 2010.
Friends
and family use this event to celebrate Townsend's love for Savannah, music and
the arts for hundreds of people each year.
Performances
including Devon Allman, son of Southern rock legend and Savannah resident Gregg
Allman, national touring reggae-jam band Passafire and local hip-hop group,
Word of Mouth, will be at the event.
"We are thrilled to bring Devon Allman to town," said Tom
Townsend, Alex's father, according to a press release. "He's an outstanding
performer, and he comes from a music tradition that Alex so admired -- that of
his father, Gregg Allman, and the Allman Brothers. Devon's a great artist in
his own right and we're bringing back Word of Mouth, of course, and are
thrilled to have Passafire. This year's show will take us another step closer
to making the A-Town Get Down an important, permanent part of Savannah's music
tradition."
Concert tickets are available for purchase at www.a-towngetdown.com or by visiting
the Savannah Box Office. Ticket prices are $15
in advance and $20 at the door.
All net proceeds will go to SCAD scholarship funds.
