Kelsey Ellis of Calvary Day is the WTOC Girls Player of the Week. Last week she scored 35 points in wins over Bryan County and Glynn Academy. Ellis is the consumate team player who is distributing the ball more this season in the the past years. "Yeah, definitely," said Ellis. "With the new players we have we definitely have more options to score. We have Rachel, Alexus, Ariel, pretty much everyone on our team can score. That's never been a problem for us. With more options, there are more opportunities to get an assist, too. I guess I've gotten more assists this year than usual."

Coach Jackie Hamilton talked about how Ellis' role has changed this season, "The last couple of years, we really relied on her more than we've had to this year for scoring. This year we have more options of people who can score and shoot the ball. She can do that if she has to or she can score if we need her to."

Her favorite shot is a 15-footer, especially from the baseline, but does spend some time in the middle where she is a scoring threat every time she touches the ball. "That's always been a good part of our team because we've got shooters on the perimeter. We've always had people inside who, if they don't have a shot, will kick it out. We've pretty much always done because when they pass it inside and they collapse that someone is open on the outside and we can shoot it."

With 8 seniors on the team, Ellis says they all get along on and off the court. "It's been so much fun getting to be with them. It's great having so many because we all just hang out even outside of school. We all do everything together, for the most part."

The most important thing Kelsey wants this week is her first region championship. "Oh, yeah, definitely. Freshman, sophomore and junior year we always got to the region championship and lost. I'm really looking forward to another opportunity and maybe we'll get to win it this year."  Coach Hamilton added, 'We haven't won the region in a few years. We've done well at the state but hopefully this year we'll put it all together for the region."

The Lady Cavaliers will play Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 in Bryan County.
