BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - During a special Change of Charge ceremony, Command Master Chief Tyrone Willis was honored for his service at Naval Hospital Beaufort before heading to his next assignment and passing the reins on to Command Master Chief Matthew Simpson.
"I love this place so much but I know its a new beginning so I have to depart and can't stay but it's bittersweet being that all of the people that came out to support this great event," said Willis. "That meant more than anything."
Willis has served as the Command Master Chief at the hospital for more than two years, motivating his sailors and making sure they are taken care of.
"The people here are great, supportive," said Willis. "We were able to accomplish a lot of things because we work as a team but more importantly as a family and that means a lot, that means we were able to get a lot accomplished."
"He is a genuine person," said Capt Joan Queen, Commanding Officer of Naval Hospital Beaufort. "He gives his all, he goes out, he care, he definitely cares about the people. He's always smiling, always uplifting, always positive, always willing to lend a helping hand and he gives his all and all for the sailors here.
As a way to thank him for all he's done during his time here, Master Chief Willis was honored with a special song Lean on Me.
"I'll miss the people more so than anything, the people, the friendships, and the fellowship," said Willis.
"I can't say enough good things about him," said Captain Queen. "He's just wonderful. He's done an awesome job here as the Command Master Chief and he'll definitely be missed. We'll miss his smiling face."
