They're getting ready for the Saint Patrick's Day festival on Savannah's River Street. The weekend saw plenty of green, but this morning, River Street becomes party central.
Yesterday, crews were busy setting up what will be the eight entry gates to River Street. Three stages were set up for free live entertainment. But if you want to drink, you have to pay $5 for a bracelet. "A lot of what we do--the fences, the gating, the wrist bands--are all security measures," said Scott Searcy of the Savannah Waterfront Association. "Several years ago it was decided Saint Patrick's Day was out of hand. And we are proud of the efforts taken to turn that around and have a safe event."
Gates open today at 10am, and they close at midnight. On Saint Patrick's Day, the gates open at 8am, closing again at midnight.
