Some terrific news impacting our military. Achieving something no other Army post has done, for the 5th time, the Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield installation has earned the Army Community of Excellence Awards, showcasing the combined-facility as the best place to serve, and live, in the Army. Backing up words with actions, with this unprecedented 5th Army-wide, facilities and services honor, and with the strong support of our surrounding communities, Fort Stewart-Hunter continues to be the "Southern Living Station of Choice"!
And speaking of the 3rd ID, former Division Commander, Major-General Tony Cucolo, currently assigned to the Pentagon, has been selected as the next Commandant of the Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. Our congratulations on this important new assignment.
And speaking of Hunter, this week featured a ribbon-cutting to formally open the new "Star Base" facility on post. Our Star Base is a cooperative partnership with the Defense Department, the Army, Savannah-Chatham Schools, and some outstanding local community champions, designed to instill greater enthusiasm in the study of science, math, and engineering, among our young people, helping to grow tomorrow's technical leaders. Significantly, our Star Base is the first in the nation to be placed within an Army installation, as well as being the first, over-all, in Georgia. Our thanks to all those, civilians and military, who've worked so hard to make Star Base at Hunter a reality, including Major-General Abrams, Hunter Garrison Command, project visionary and leader, Scott Martens, and Gulfstream Aerospace for their tremendous support, making this dream a reality.
