A Jet Blue pilot captain from just outside Richmond Hill acted erratically on a flight from New York to Las Vegas, according to police.
Passengers say Clayton Osbon was locked out of the cockpit by his copilot because of his behavior. Passengers say he was shouting "bomb" and that he had to pull back the throttle.
According to the passengers, they had to hold the captain down until the the plane was on the ground after an emergency landing in Amarillo, Texas.
"I'm glad the passengers are safe. I have no idea what happened, but I know Jet Blue is handling the situation," Osbon's wife told WTOC.
All was quiet outside his Bryan County home. Bryan County sheriff's deputies were near the house keeping the media away.
Osbon's neighbor and friend Elton Stafford was shocked by the news.
"Clayton is a great guy. I've known him for years and never heard anything bad about him. I've had business dealings with him and he is a quiet guy from a quiet family," Stafford said.
Jet Blue said the captain became ill. The airline said he was taken to a medical facility. There is no word on when he will return to Bryan County.
