A man was killed in a crash at Highway 80 near Alfred Street has been identified. It happened just before 7 a.m. Friday and involved a tractor trailer carrying logs and an SUV.
Authorities said Terry Williams, 58, of Ellabell, was killed. The wreck closed an eastbound lane of Highway 80 during the morning commute from Garden City into Savannah.
Garden City police and Port Wentworth firefighter crews responded to the scene.
Firefighters had to cut about a dozen logs out of the windshield and out of the back windows before they could remove the body and the SUV from the crash scene.
Garden City police said they do not know if the SUV driver fell asleep or had a medical condition that caused it to hit the log truck.
Investigators are inspecting the log truck.
