PORT WENTWORTH, GA (WTOC) - Port Wentworth Police say Craig Jackson got into a fight with his girlfriend. He ripped her clothes, and tried to prevent her from getting out of his car. She finally escaped, and that's when officers say Jackson lost it.
Jackson went before a judge on Friday in the Chatham County Jail. He was denied bond, after the judge heard more about the circumstances leading up to his arrest.
Port Wentworth Police surrounded Jackson's house Friday night, after he barricaded him and his children inside the home. A negotiator asked him repeatedly to release the children and come outside.
Finally, after four hours, Jackson gave himself up. Investigators say the whole ordeal started because of the fight with his girlfriend.
"It was obvious that she was involved in a physical struggle," explained Detective Brian Phinney, Port Wentworth Police Department. "Her shirt was very ripped. His reason for not coming out of the house is that he was afraid. He was scared. He was afraid the police were going to beat him up."
Craig Jackson is charged with obstruction, battery and false imprisonment.
Investigators say the girlfriend has now stopped cooperating with police.
The children, ages three and six years old, are okay. They're now staying with a family member.
