Family remembers Army Ranger killed in Afghanistan
TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -
23 year old Hunter Army Airfield Ranger Tanner Higgins was killed in Afghanistan over the weekend.
His family says he was involved in a gun fight when he was fatally shot.
"He was an extraordinary kid. I was his older cousin so I got to see him grow up. Being in the military was just something we knew was a perfect fit for him," Higgins' cousin Ryan Horne said.
Higgins is from Texas, but his mother moved to Tybee Island to be closer to her son. He was deployed in March to Afghanistan.
"He was a great soldier and an awesome son to Patti," Horne said.
Higgins' mother attends Chapel by the Sea on Tybee.
"I have a son who is in the Marines and he is on his fifth deployment. It's very common...when I would go to the Breakfast Club where Patti works...I would say Patti I'm praying for your son...and she would say I'm praying for your son as well," Pastor David Laughner said.
Higgins was married seven months ago to Shelby Higgins from his hometown.
If you would like to help the family, donations are being accepted at the Breakfast Club on Tybee Island or Chapel by the Sea.
