Two men are scheduled to be sentenced in Chatham County Superior Court today after they were found guilty of charges in the death of a Savannah man by a jury late Wednesday night.
Testimony in the trial showed 46-year-old Tyrone McKee and 31-year-old Shawn Tilley were at a birthday party for Jeffrey Hazzard early on the morning of July 26, 2002. By the time police arrived, Hazzard was found dead on the porch of a house on Harden Street, were the party had taken place.
Witnesses say Tilley and McKee got into an argument and Hazzard stepped in to stop it. McKee pulled a gun and fired, hitting Hazzard in the chest and Tilley in the back.
McKee was still holding the gun when officers got to the scene. He dropped it and was arrested. McKee faces life in prison.
Tilley, who is paralyzed from his wounds, could get ten years. Both men were found guilty because prosecutors say the argument led to the killing.
