Police Chase Ends with Capture of Two Suspects

A trip to the grocery store turned scary for one women and ended with a search for three men. It all started when a woman's purse was snatched in the parking lot of Publix at Abercorn and Shawnee. The suspects took off and police took it from there.

The folks at King's Cove apartments say they're just happy things ended well, and that Savannah-Chatham police reacted so quickly. The chase ended on Woodley and Largo Drive this afternoon, when police caught one of the suspects. Witnesses say earlier two men fled from the Publix parking lot and tried to hide out at the apartment complex.

"They couldn't find them and finally they located them on Largo," said Jeannette Smith, a property manager at the complex. She saw the whole thing and says it was like a scene from the movies. "They pulled him over and two of them jumped out and ran. They jumped over my fence and they caught them hiding behind bushes on my property."

Although this police chase had a happy ending, Smith says she feared for her tenants. "Kids, residents, older people, it's very scary."

Although King's Coves is a crime free complex, Smith says a situation like today will make her take extra precautions. "We're cutting down our bushes because of this," she said. "We keep our bushes very low."

A third suspect in the purse snatching is still at large.
