Guilty Plea in Former Officer Murder

A Chatham County murder trial begins and ends on the first day. Thirty-year-old Joseph Williams pled guilty yesterday to malice murder. Williams and another inmate are accused of strangling former Richmond Hill and Thunderbolt police officer Michael Deal in July of 2001. Deal was in jail for failing to pay child support.

Judge Louisa Abbot expects the penalty phase to take three days.

Williams could be sentenced to death by lethal injection.
