Mayor's Essay Contest

What would you do if you were mayor of Savannah? That's a question sixth graders had to answer in the form of an essay. WTOC's own Jody Chapin was one of several who judged the essays submitted by the area students as part of Georgia Cities Week. One hundred fifty-eight essays were judged on content, grammar and original ideas. Students wrote about crime, better housing and other current events.

Some even had some unique plans. "Well, we have some students who want to to take some of the parks and put parking garages in them because we don't have enough parking," said City of Savannah librarian Glenda Anderson. "We have students who want to be mayor because they like to visit all over the state and world and we have those who want more Krispy Kream and less homework."

Mayor Otis Johnson will be announcing the winners soon. We'll be sure to let you know who it is.
