Today was a day of rest and relaxation for people who fill a crucial role in our region. More than 500 employees of Pineland Mental Health gathered at the Tattnall Campground for an appreciation day. The agency serves over 3,000 patients in eight south Georgia counties. The workers help those who suffer from mental illness, mental retardation, substance abuse and other problems.
"Our consumers are out in the community," said administrator June DiPolito. "They're leading more productive lives. Many have come out of institutions. Many don't have to be hospitalized because we're able to keep them stable in the community."
Employees got a break to have fun. They also got health screenings to check on themselves.
